Hello,

For anyone interested, I will start blogging my account of cycling from Cape Wrath on Thursday 4th June.

Note: I haven't said where I'm cycling to. That is a mystery for me, as well as you, at this point...

I will explain more on June 4th🙂

 I'm sitting on the train from Inverness to Thurso and I've just spotted the Kessock Bridge which Kate and I cycled over on the end to end. It strikes me as slightly odd that I should get an extra burst of excitement from seeing something I have already seen... Perhaps I would have to do this entire trip all over again to benefit from maximum enjoyment? I have the feeling that I am running out of people doing things for me. Taking me on trains and giving me comfy beds for the night. Yes, I have booked this evening's campsite, but that still involves camping.  Still, the sun is out! I have a strong headwind to cycle against today. (I've just tried it out in Inverness) However, if the forecast is accurate.... the wind changes overnight to quite a friendly direction. And if the weather forecast continues to be right, the wind again becomes favourable as I turn round at Cape Wrath and head for home. This never happens! Cuckoo at Cape Wrath

 I awoke at 6, this morning. Nothing unusual in that for me. The unusual bit was making coffee in the middle of nowhere. The sun was out! I hung my sleeping bag out to air. Likewise my tent before packing it. The sea had receded from the estuary, barring my escape route for the time being. Great big swirls of sand banks are revealed, showing that the ferryman hadn't just been in an odd mood when he steered over yesterday.  There was very little sign of wild life here. A few weeks ago, Kate and I, house sat in the hills of Surrey. Hearing a cuckoo seemed normal. What surprised me was that it was one of the few birds I heard here. And it was very insistent. Bigging it up for the cuckoos of Cape Wrath, I suppose. Otherwise, it was Curlews, gulls and, oh, a bird of prey. Not sure what. But not a red kite, which made a change.... Taking the smooth and the rough

 The day started with another go on one of the chairs in the kitchen. The sun was out. The wind was belting along in the right direction! What's more, the overall slope for the first 15 miles, was down. It was beautiful cycling. Amazing scenery and I came across my first shop for a while. I dived in, full of anticipation for all the goodies I could buy, then just stood there transfixed. I had no idea what to buy. In the end I bought a pack of four scones (no butter or anything) and a hot sausage roll. I took them outside, found somewhere to sit and tucked in to the sausages roll. Despite my hunger, it was so disgusting that I could only eat half of it. It reminded me of an incident at school when I was twelve. Sausage rolls were on the menu for lunch. They tasted similar to the one I had just had. But being a boy, I wanted seconds. I went to the counter to ask and they refused to serve me. They said that they were so disgusting that no one should be eating them. And there we were,...
